An Evening Dedicated to Making Civil Dialogue Part of Our Stewardship

Our mission is creation care and sustainability.  But with the recent wave of violence, which continues to touch so many, including our own, we will talk about how to create a safe place for civil dialogue.

Tom Cain, who has trained mediators for 25 years, will open the discussion with some basic principles, which enable listening, respect, and a safe space for dialogue.  Understanding how to have a dialogue (instead of a monologue) is not just a nicety — dialogue is the lifeblood of any and all relationships.

After this brief introduction, we need your input and stories of your experiences, where dialogue and listening were achieved.  Including situations where dialogue and listening were not possible.  What made it work?  What made it fail?  What are the conditions under which respectful listening was possible for you? We hope for an open discussion where everyone can come away with tools to help become better listeners and kinder speakers.
