How to Join Citizens’ Climate Lobby LDS Action Team
— The LDS Action Team: Doug Evans
Thank you for connecting with us through the LDS Creation Care Community website. This community’s mission is intended to help you connect with the various groups and non-profits that promote wise stewardship of all of God’s creations. The LDS Action Team meets online regularly to discuss and learn about this vital stewardship and sustainability aspect of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. While focusing on all aspects of creation care is necessary, we focus in a more LDS Gospel centered way on how our actions can help reduce the effects of a changing climate by talking with our friends, elected officials, and neighbors.
Because the LDS Action Team is a subgroup of the Citizens’ Climate Lobby (CCL), you begin by joining that organization. This free membership provides an incredible learning and volunteer resource database regarding Climate issues and governmental policy. Because you make selections that customize your own community location and experience, we cannot fully enroll you in the LDS Action Team through one form. As such, we are providing these instructions to help make your experience the best possible. Please advise us if any of these procedures change with time.
Joining the LDS Action Team of the Citizens’ Climate Lobby is a three-step process.
First— You begin by joining Citizens’ Climate Lobby by following the link: https://citizensclimatelobby.org/join-citizens-climate-lobby/
Please fill in all the form questions and then click on the “Join CCL” button.
Second— That action takes you to another page and asks you to select a Local Chapter that fits your unique community needs and connects better with local political representatives. The web page will try to select your closest local chapter. If you were not automatically taken to this step in the original CCL application, or if you desire to join another chapter, then please continue this process by selecting the following link and choosing your preferred chapter (you may need to wait till you get an email verifying your CCL membership): https://community.citizensclimate.org/chapters
You may also format a custom message to be sent to your local chapter leadership so they can reach out to you about local meetings, and events. Click on the “Send” or “Skip” button to proceed to the next screen. There are some introductory meetings to the programs that you may select on the screen or click “Skip” if you wish to move on. The next screen offers various Social Media connections if desired. Hit “Continue”. You may then close the next screen.
You will then receive an introductory email confirming your Citizens’ Climate Lobby (CCL) Membership. In that email will be an assigned Username and Password. Please write these down. They are needed to access your Community and Action Team sites in CCL. It may show “missing an email” for the Username, that is OK, and all this information can be changed later in your account. In the body of the email, you should see a highlighted link to connect with your local CCL Community. Hit that link. You can now enter your Email (used in the sign-up, even if it showed there was none) and assigned Password to log into the Community Pages. You will then see a “Welcome to CCL Community” banner and your name will appear in the upper right-hand corner. If you desire to change your password etc., hit the drop-down arrow next to you name and select “Account Settings”.
Now hit the button on the welcome screen that says, “Connect with your local chapter”. You can now enter your selected Chapter Community Group and learn about the local community, view events, and meetings, and connect with other members by selecting the “Members” link on the left-hand menu.
Third— Now for the most important step, and where great friendship and power is generated. While you are exploring the local Community page(s), you then join one or more “Action Teams”. Unlike local chapters, Action Teams are organized around other (non- geographical) common organizations, topics, or areas of interest, each working to create the political will for a livable world. Here is where the LDS Action Team (found in the Faith section) shines in its distinctive and rewarding work. This connection is made by opening the “Connect” menu at the top of the screen and then selecting “Action Teams” under the “Groups” sub-heading. You may also follow this link if you are visiting the site later after joining CCL and your Community: https://community.citizensclimate.org/groups/action-teams
You should now see the “Action Team Directory” page. Scroll down to see the many Action Teams. Under “Faith” select “LDS”. Here you can learn about the Team and view current members, like how you navigated your Local Community page from above. Hit the green “Join” button on the right side of the screen. You are now a member and will receive occasional emails about CCL Community and LDS Action Team events and programs. You may return to the Action Team Page at any time by simply clicking the above link, including joining any additional action teams that may be of interest to you.
Congratulations! You did it! We look forward to meeting with you and learning together as we become more effective in our creation care and gospel stewardship roles as friends and mentors.
Don’t forget to visit our LDS Creation Care Community often to discover other inspirational material and resources. THANK YOU!
